Usage
Oxalic acid, also known as oxalic acid, is the simplest dibasic acid. Widely exists in nature, especially in plants, such as herbs, rhubarb, sorrel, spinach, etc., and often exists in the form of potassium salt. In the urine of humans or carnivorous animals, oxalic acid exists in the form of calcium salts or oxaluric acid, and calcium oxalate is the main component of urinary stones.
The two carboxyl groups in the oxalic acid molecule are directly connected and have some special properties. For example, oxalic acid has reducing properties, which can reduce potassium permanganate to divalent manganese. This reaction is used in quantitative analysis to determine the concentration of potassium permanganate. Method; oxalic acid can also be used as a bleaching agent in the fiber, oil and leather industry, and it also uses its reducing properties.
Oxalic acid undergoes decarboxylation and dehydration when heated to generate carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water. Laboratory can use oxalic acid thermal decomposition to produce carbon monoxide gas.
Oxalic acid can form water-soluble complexes with many metals. Oxalic acid can be used as rust, ink stain cleaning agent and metal polishing agent. Oxalic acid can remove rust. Go to a store that sells chemical reagents to buy a bottle of oxalic acid, take some, and rub it on the rust with a solution made of warm water. Stores that sell oxalic acid usually also sell medical equipment and glass instruments.
Antimony oxalate can be used as a mordant, and ammonium ferric oxalate is a reagent for printing blueprints.

Colorless transparent crystal, often containing two molecules of crystal water. When heated to 98-100°C, oxalic acid hydrate loses crystal water. Anhydrous oxalic acid is a deliquescent colorless, odorless solid with rhombohedral and monoclinic crystals. At room temperature, rhombohedral oxalic acid crystals are thermodynamically stable, while monoclinic oxalic acid crystals are thermodynamically metastable. The melting point and density of rhombohedral oxalic acid crystals are slightly higher than those of monoclinic oxalic acid. The melting point of anhydrous oxalic acid is 189.5°C (decomposition). Partial decomposition begins at 157°C. When heating is accelerated, oxalic acid is completely decomposed to generate formic acid, carbon monoxide and water. Soluble in water and alcohol, slightly soluble in ether, insoluble in benzene, chloroform and petroleum ether. In case of high heat, open flame or contact with oxidants, there is a danger of burning. Heating decomposition produces toxic gas.
