The global natural sweetener market is expected to grow from US $22.49 billion in 2020 to US $27.94 billion by 2026, with a CAGR of 3.7%, according to the latest report by ValuatesReports. The increasing use of zero-calorie sweeteners in many foods, especially in beverages, is further driving the growth in the size of the natural sweetener market.

The global polyol sweetener market is expected to reach $9.3 billion by 2027, with a CAGR of 6.4%. The industry is expected to be spurred by consumers' preference for low-calorie foods and growing concerns about health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

Polyols are sugar derivatives produced by fermentation or hydrogenation of biological wastes, also known as sugar alcohols, which are widely used in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other chemical fields. Although sugar alcohol is not sugar, it has the sweet taste of sugar and will not corrode teeth. It has no effect on the rise of human blood glucose and has a high stability to acid and heat. Therefore, it is used as sweetener in sugar-free and low-sugar foods.

Powdered polyols dominate the market, accounting for more than 75.0% of total global polyols sales in 2019. Polyols in the form of powdered sugar, which can be used to make a variety of foods such as confectionery, snack foods and baked goods, are expected to grow steadily over the forecast period due to their ease of handling, transportation and storage, and long shelf life. Polyol sweeteners in liquid or syrups form are highly water-soluble, making them useful for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulation. Growing consumer demand for natural sugar alternatives is expected to drive demand for liquid sugar alcohols, especially in beverages.

Among them, sorbitol sweeteners are expected to be the largest polyol type segment, with the sorbitol-based sweeteners market accounting for more than 41% of global polyol sweeteners in 2019, and sorbitol is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.8% over the forecast period.

About sorbitol: sorbitol, alias sorbitol. White hygroscopic powder or crystalline powder, flake, or granule, odorless. The melting point varies in the range of 88~102℃, and the relative density is about 1.49. Soluble in water (1g soluble in about 0.45ml water), slightly soluble in ethanol and acetic acid. It has a cool sweetness, about half as sweet as sucrose, and its calorific value is similar to that of sucrose. According to the supply of sorbitol Beite chemical understanding: the food industry is mostly 69~71% of the content of sorbitol liquid. Sorbitol solution is a clear colorless syrupy liquid, sweet, neutral to litmus, can be miscible with water, glycerol, and propylene glycol. Can be used as nutritive sweetener, wetting agent, chelating agent, and stabilizer.
