In order to study the effect of potassium nitrate on the pyrolysis characteristics of typical flue-cured tobacco leaves, we used professional instruments, such as thermogravimetric analyzer, microcalorimeter (MCC) and infrared thermal imager, to compare the effects of potassium nitrate on the pyrolysis characteristics of typical flue-cured tobacco leaves. The effects of potassium citrate and potassium citrate on the burning rate, heat release, kinetics and maximum burning temperature of flue-cured tobacco were studied.
Potassium salt, as a combustion-supporting agent, can improve the quality of cigarettes and reduce the release of harmful substances in mainstream cigarette smoke. Potassium nitrate and potassium malate were added to cigarettes, and the combustion temperature, CO, tar and nicotine contents in mainstream smoke were decreased. Through our comparison, potassium citrate is considered to be an ideal potassium salt additive. The effect of potassium salt on the burnability and tar yield of cigarettes shows that the proper amount of potassium salt can accelerate the burning of cigarettes. The addition of potassium ions changed the morphology of tobacco combustion intermediates, thus lowering the combustion temperature of cigarettes.
