The industrial preparation methods of hydrogen peroxide mainly include electrolysis, anthraquinone and direct hydrogenation. Each of these methods has its own characteristics and application scenarios, but anthraquinone process is the most important method to produce hydrogen peroxide.
Electrolysis Method. This is a traditional production method, by electrolyzing ammonium bisulphate solution to produce hydrogen peroxide. This method has the advantages of simple process and convenient operation, but it has high energy consumption and needs to use a lot of salt and water resources.
Anthraquinone Method. The anthraquinone method is the most widely used method for producing hydrogen peroxide. In this method, anthraquinone was reduced to hydroanthraquinone by using anthraquinone as a working carrier and passing it into acidic solution with hydrogen. Then, oxygen is passed into the solution to oxidize the hydroanthraquinone to produce anthraquinone and hydrogen peroxide. The advantages of anthraquinone process for extracting hydrogen peroxide are that the production process is relatively safe, reliable, the product quality is stable, and the production can be automated. The disadvantage is that a large number of organic solvents need to be used, which has a certain impact on the environment.
Direct Hydrogenation Method. This is a method of directly combining hydrogen and oxygen to form hydrogen peroxide. The advantages of this method are simple process, high efficiency, and no need to use a lot of organic solvents and water resources. The disadvantage is that the catalyst price is high, and the reaction conditions and operation process need to be strictly controlled to ensure safe production.
In addition, there are other methods such as photolysis, biological methods, etc., which are suitable for different production occasions and needs.
